Writing a resume looks easy at first. Just one page, some details, and done. But trust me, when I was learning how to write my first resume, I was totally confused.

  • What to write?
  • What not to write?
  • Why HR is not replying?

Most beginners face the same problem. That’s why I wrote this blog  in very simple words, based on real experience.

If you are a student, fresher, or beginner, this guide is for you.

Why Learn Resume Writing in 2026

In 2026, jobs are more competitive than ever.
One small resume mistake can cost you an interview.

A resume is not just a paper.
It is your first impression.

In my experience, many good students get rejected only because their resume is weak, not because they lack skills.

Learning resume writing helps you:

  • Get more interview calls
  • Look professional
  • Feel confident while applying
  • Save time while job hunting

Think of your resume like a movie trailer. If the trailer is boring, no one watches the movie.

What Is a Resume?

A resume is a short document that shows:

  • Who you are
  • What skills you have
  • What you studied or worked on

It tells HR why you are suitable for the job. A good resume talks less but shows more value.

Basic Resume Format for Beginners (2026)

When I made my first resume, I added everything. That was a mistake.
Simple always works better.

Personal Details

Keep it clean and short.

  • Full Name
  • Email ID (professional)
  • Phone Number
  • LinkedIn / GitHub (if any)

❌ Don’t add photo, age, religion, or full address.

Career Objective (Very Important)

This is the first thing HR reads.
It should be 2–3 lines only.

Example:

A motivated B.Tech student looking for an entry-level role where I can learn, grow, and use my skills to support the company.

Simple. Honest. Clear.

Skills Section

Most beginners get confused here.

Only write skills you actually know.
In interviews, they will ask from resume .

Example:

  • Java
  • HTML, CSS, JavaScript
  • React (basic)
  • SQL

In my experience, fewer real skills are better than many fake ones.

Projects (Must for Freshers)

Projects show your real work, not theory.

Explain each project in 2–3 simple lines.

Example:

Employee Management System
A web app to add, update, and delete employee data using React and Spring Boot.

This tells HR what you did, not just the name.

Education

Write clearly:

  • Degree
  • College name
  • Year
  • CGPA or percentage

No long stories needed here.

Common Resume Mistakes Beginners Make

I made these mistakes too, so learn from them:

  • Using fancy words
  • Writing long paragraphs
  • Copy-pasting resume from Google
  • One same resume for all jobs
  • Spelling mistakes

In my opinion, simple English wins.

How to Apply for Jobs Properly (Step-by-Step)

Just uploading resume on a job portal is not enough.

Step 1: Find the Right Job

Use:

  • LinkedIn
  • Naukri
  • Company career pages

Read the job role carefully.

Step 2: Match Your Resume

Small changes matter.

  • Change skills order
  • Update project name
  • Adjust career objective

This increases chances a lot.

Step 3: Apply + Mail HR

This is where most beginners fail.

How to Mail HR Properly (With Examples)

HR mails should be short, polite, and clear.

Example 1: Simple Job Application Mail

Subject: Application for Frontend Developer – Fresher

Mail Body:

Hello Sir/Madam,

I hope you are doing well.

I am a B.Tech graduate and I am applying for the Frontend Developer fresher role. I have basic knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and React.

Please find my resume attached for your review.

Thank you for your time.

Regards,
Ankush Kumar

Simple. Respectful. Works.

Example 2: Follow-Up Mail (After 7 Days)

Subject: Follow-up on Job Application

Hello Sir/Madam,

I am following up on my previous job application. I wanted to check if there is any update.

Thank you for your time and support.

Regards,
Ankit

No pressure. No begging.

How to Ask for Referral (Very Important Skill)

Referrals help a lot. Trust me.

When I first asked for a referral, I was scared. But most people actually help.

Example 3: LinkedIn Referral Message

Hi [Name],

I hope you are doing well. I saw that you work at [Company Name].

I have applied for a fresher role there and wanted to ask if you could kindly refer me.

I would really appreciate your help.

Thank you!

Short and polite.

Example 4: Referral Mail

Subject: Referral Request – Fresher Role

Hello [Name],

I hope you are doing well.

I am a fresher looking for opportunities and noticed an opening at your company. I wanted to ask if you could please refer me.

I have attached my resume for your reference.

Thanks a lot for your support.

Regards,
Ankush

In my experience, asking nicely works more than staying silent.

Extra Tips That Really Help

These small things matter:

  • Use one page resume
  • Save file as YourName_Resume.pdf
  • Use simple fonts
  • Check spelling twice
  • Keep learning and updating resume

Practicing resume writing helps a lot. Each version becomes better.

Final Thoughts

Resume writing is not magic.
It is a skill you learn step by step.

I was once confused too. But with simple words, real projects, and honest effort, things improve.

Don’t wait for a perfect resume.
Start with a simple one and improve it slowly.
